Forbidden Planet megastore and offshoot shops shut (news).

Well, there goes my favourite geek-specialist retail experience off Oxford Street – the London Forbidden Planet megastore and its various offshoots around the country have now been shut down in the face of the global pandemic.

They say, “To protect our staff and our customers, and to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, all of our stores are now closed. As the situation changes, we will keep you informed. We would like to thank all of our customers and staff for their fantastic support during this difficult time and we look forward to seeing you back when we re-open! Please stay safe and stay healthy.”

Their mail-order subscription service to order regular comics is currently still open, although they warn many print-based US-titles are not shipping over the big pond at the moment.

Free Comic Book Day, they also warn, will not take place on the first weekend of May 2020 as usual.

No news as to whether their staff are getting the 80% of full salary being promised via the UK government scheme, as of yet. Let’s hope so, we don’t need another Wetherspoons situation (the pub chain benched all its staff, totally unpaid).
