The Thing: scifi horror film retrospective (audio).

John Carpenter’s famous 1982 horror sci-fi film The Thing is discussed with guests Tom Gerencer, Andrea Kail, and Matthew Kressel, who join David Barr Kirtley on the show.

The movie, which is based on the 1938 novella Who Goes There? by John W. Campbell Jr., tells the tale of a group of American scientists who travel to Antarctica and come face to face with the eponymous “Thing,” a parasitic extraterrestrial life-form that assimilates and then imitates the behaviour of other organisms.

It becomes clear to the group that they can no longer rely on one another and that any of them may be the Thing, and they are gripped with paranoia and tension.

Kurt Russell portrays R.J. MacReady, the team’s helicopter pilot, in the film, which also stars A. Wilford Brimley, T. K. Carter, David Clennon, Keith David, Richard Dysart, Charles Hallahan, Peter Maloney, Richard Masur, Donald Moffat, Joel Polis, and Thomas G. Waites in supporting roles.
