Gremlins: a horror movie retrospective (audio format).

The Morgster is back with a horror movie retrospective, in audio format, of Gremlins, the 1984 American black comedy horror film directed by Joe Dante and written by Chris Columbus.

The film follows a young man named Billy Peltzer who receives a strange creature called a mogwai as a pet. However, when the mogwai, named Gizmo, spawns several other mogwai who transform into small, destructive monsters, chaos ensues in the town of Kingston Falls on Christmas Eve.

The film was produced by Steven Spielberg and executive produced by Michael Finnell. It was a critical and commercial success, but was heavily criticized at the time for its OTT violent sequences. In response to these complaints, Spielberg suggested that the Motion Picture Association of America alter its rating system, which it did, creating the new PG-13 rating.

Gremlins was followed by a sequel, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, in 1990. The sequel has a more satirical tone and parodies Hollywood sequels, and received generally positive reviews from critics. However, it was a box-office bomb.
