Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Busting makes Paul Rudd feel good? (trailer)

Strap on your proton packs and brace for a chilly adventure with Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the latest installment in the Ghostbusters franchise. Helmed by Gil Kenan and co-penned with Jason Reitman, this sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife ushers in the fifth chapter of ghost-busting shenanigans. Expect an avalanche of laughs, supernatural thrills, and a star-studded cast ready to face an icy threat? Hopefully.

Starring the ever-charismatic Paul Rudd, Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, Celeste O’Connor, and Logan Kim, the film sees the return of the original ghostbusters – Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Annie Potts, and William Atherton. Reprising their iconic roles, they blend a touch of the old-school charm while newcomers Kumail Nanjiani and Patton Oswalt join the fray, adding their comedic zest to this spectral comedy.

Set against the backdrop of New York City’s iconic skyline, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire follows the Spengler family as they team up with the original Ghostbusters at the iconic NYC firehouse. Their mission? To thwart a frigid adversary hell-bent on ushering in a new Ice Age. An ancient artifact sets loose an evil force, and it’s up to our blend of seasoned and rookie Ghostbusters to save the day.

While this marks the first film in the Ghostbusters series without Ivan Reitman’s direct touch, following his passing in February 2022, it remains a tribute to his enduring legacy. The movie doubles as a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the original Ghostbusters and stands as a poignant homage to Reitman’s memory. The film’s production began in March 2023, wrapping up in June, setting the stage for its highly anticipated release on March 22, 2024, by Columbia Pictures under Sony Pictures Releasing.

In addition to the usual ensemble, James Acaster and Emily Alyn Lind join the cast in enigmatic roles, adding to the frosty mystery of this adventure.

As we at SFcrowsnest await the release of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, one question looms large: can our heroes outwit this chilling new adversary? With a legacy this, errr, cool, will Frozen Empire be a spine-tingling, supernatural spectacle? Ghostbusters fans, gear up – it could be a frosty ride.
