Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. The team’s chilling new mission will give you the warm fuzzies (trailer).

If you’ve ever wondered what would happen if the Ghostbusters switched their iconic proton packs for snow shovels, well, wonder no more! Pack up your Ecto Goggles and parkas because Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is floating into theaters like a spectral snowflake on a mission. This upcoming American supernatural comedy film, helmed by Gil Kenan, is the sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife and marks the fifth installment in the beloved Ghostbusters franchise.

The original ghost-chasing gang is getting back together, with old favorites like Bill Murray’s deadpan Dr. Peter Venkman and Dan Aykroyd’s ever-enthusiastic Dr. Raymond “Ray” Stantz. They’re not just bringing their ghost-busting A-game back; they’re upgrading it in a top-secret research lab because, apparently, the otherworldly beings didn’t get the memo to stop haunting New York City.

And what’s a Ghostbusters movie without a new otherworldly threat? This time, the gang, both legacy and newcomers alike, face off against an ancient artifact that’s more chill than your freezer’s ice maker. It’s determined to kick-start a second Ice Age, because who wouldn’t want to see a mammoth stomping down Fifth Avenue?

Among the returning cast are the fresh faces from Afterlife – Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, and the scene-stealing Paul Rudd, because let’s face it, you can’t have too much Paul Rudd. The new blood doesn’t end there. Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, James Acaster, and Emily Alyn Lind are joining the fray in roles shrouded in as much mystery as the ghostly villains themselves.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire decided London was the new New York for filming, which started in March 2023 under the apt working title Firehouse. You may have even caught a glimpse of a stunt scene if you follow Casey Neistat, who, while documenting something entirely different, ended up giving us a sneak peek. The cast and crew wrapped up their spectral shenanigans in June, leaving fans to count down the days until its March 2024 release.

The movie’s release journey has been a bit of a roller coaster, dodging Spider-Men and navigating around strike-shaped obstacles. It’s set to hit theaters a tad later than originally planned, but hey, good things and all that.

And let’s talk about that teaser trailer that dropped in November. It gave us the title Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and a synopsis that promises yet another quirky, nostalgic ride through ghost-infested streets. Just when you thought your childhood memories couldn’t get any cooler, they literally do.

So, who you gonna call? It seems like the answer remains unchanged. The Ghostbusters are ready to show us that no amount of ghostly frost can dampen their spirit. Here’s to hoping they save the world once again because, honestly, a second Ice Age is not on anyone’s 2024 bingo card.
