Constellation: Apple’s scifi TV drama where Amnesia meets Cosmos? (trailer)

Gather around, stargazers and sci-fi aficionados. Constellation is set to launch into your living rooms, and it’s promising to be the kind of brain-twisting, space-warping adventure that’ll have you questioning reality, memory, and maybe even your own existence. It’s a ride that SFcrowsnest readers won’t want to miss.

Created by Peter Harness, Constellation is an Apple TV+ series that’s part space thriller, part psychological puzzle. The show stars Noomi Rapace as Jo, an astronaut who’s just come back to Earth after a disaster in space that might as well have been scripted by Murphy’s Law. But it’s not just her spaceship that’s in pieces – parts of Jo’s life seem to have gone missing, like socks in a cosmic laundry.

Joining Rapace is the legendary Jonathan Banks, known for his roles in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. Banks plays Henry, who we can only hope is as gruff and enigmatic as his previous characters. The cast also includes James D’Arcy, Julian Looman, and Barbara Sukowa, among others, making it a veritable constellation of talent. Directed by Michelle MacLaren, Oliver Hirschbiegel, and Joseph Cedar, this series is set to be a visual spectacle, with the first two episodes helmed by MacLaren herself. Known for her work on Shining Girls and The Morning Show, MacLaren’s involvement promises a series that’s as slick and polished as a newly minted starship.

Now, let’s talk about the juicy bits. Constellation isn’t just a trip through the galaxy; it’s an exploration into the dark recesses of human psychology. It’s like going on a spacewalk, but inside your brain. And let’s be honest, who hasn’t wanted to explore the final frontier of their own mind?

Filmed in Germany and Finnish Lapland, Constellation has received a hefty grant from the German government and Business Finland, making it one of the most well-funded European series in recent memory. However, not everything’s rosy in this starry saga – the Finnish newspaper Helsingin Sanomat reported some unpaid bills by the production in Lapland. It seems even in space, you can’t escape the drama of unpaid invoices.

So, mark your calendars for February 21st, 2024. Constellation looks set to be a cosmic conundrum wrapped in a space enigma. It’s what happens when you mix a space odyssey with a psychological thriller and throw in a dash of interstellar amnesia for good measure. For fans of thought-provoking sci-fi, Constellation is shaping up to be your next binge-worthy obsession. Just don’t forget to pay your space station bills.
