Titancon, the Belfast-based science fiction convention which has been held in the city annually since 2011, will also be hosting the European Science Fiction Convention in 2019. Titancon 2019 is expected to attract up to a thousand fans of science fiction and fantasy literature, art, crafts, comics, film and television.
The event will take place between Thursday 22nd and Sunday 25th August, 2019, with a range of talks, panels, workshops and demonstrations scheduled for the first three days.
Sunday 25th August will feature a celebratory community day alongside opportunities for members to visit local Belfast attractions or join wider-ranging themed coach tours.
The Titancon team is in final negotiations with the newly completed Waterfront Convention Centre and the adjacent Hilton Hotel to host the convention. These venues are located in the centre of Belfast with views over the River Lagan.
Convention Co-Chairs Phil Lowles and Jo Playford told SFcrowsnest, “We are hugely excited to bring the Eurocon to Belfast, and are also working closely with Dublin’s bid to host the World Science Fiction Convention on the preceding weekend. Local fans will be able to interact with a wide range of authors, artists and other genre personalities, while visitors from the mainland UK, Europe, the US and further afield will be able to enjoy Belfast’s rich culture and share the wonderful talents of local writers, artists and craftspeople.”
