The Shift: new parallel reality-sliding scifi film (trailer).

Birmingham, Alabama, better known for its historical landmarks than as a movie set, has hit the spotlight with the production of “The Shift,” a forthcoming parallel reality-sliding science fiction thriller.

The Shift,” directed by Brock Heasley, is shaping up to be a unique fusion of dystopian drama and sci-fi excitement. It features seasoned actors Neal McDonough, known for “Band of Brothers” and “Justified,” and Sean Astin of “The Lord of the Rings” and “Stranger Things” fame.

The film tracks the struggles of Kevin Garner, played by Kristoffer Polaha, in a dystopian world. Garner’s life takes a dramatic turn when he encounters the Benefactor, played by McDonough, setting off a gripping survival narrative. He casts Kevin off into the multiverse – to get back to his base reality, he’ll have to play serf, assassin, and all-round errand boy to the mysterious Benefactor.

“The Shift” is set to bring a fresh take on science fiction, exploring themes of infinite worlds and impossible choices. Interestingly, “The Shift” signals a new direction for some cast members. Notably, Sean Astin, well-known for fantasy and adventure roles, makes a noteworthy move into science fiction.

Scheduled for a December 2023 release, “The Shift” has generated a buzz among SFcrowsnest readers and the broader sci-fi audience. Its unique combination of dystopian themes, action-packed narrative, and strong cast are anticipated to have us watching, at any rate.
