RIP René Auberjonois: Odo in Star Trek Deep Space Nine (news).

Actor René Auberjonois, better known as policeman shapeshifter Odo in Star Trek Deep Space Nine, has passed away aged 79 from lung cancer. He also played Father Mulcahy in the original film version of MASH, as well as Colonel West in the 1991 Star Trek film Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country.

He was a prolific guest star across TV and made appearances in The Rockford Files, Charlie’s Angels, Starsky & Hutch, Wonder Woman, The Outer Limits, Night Gallery, Hart to Hart, The Bionic Woman, Frasier, Judging Amy, Star Trek: Enterprise, Stargate SG-1, Warehouse 13, Archer, L.A. Law, The Practice, NCIS, and The Librarians among many others.

As Odo, he played a part in the major plot arc of DS9. Found as a baby shapeshifter, he was security officer for the space station Deep Space Nine and aided the Federation throughout the Dominion War against his own race, the Founders.
