Marlowe (noir cri-fi movie: trailer).

Step aside, Sam Spade. There’s a new detective in town and he’s got a brooding look that could kill. Introducing Philip Marlowe, the fictional character created by Raymond Chandler and brought to life by none other than Liam Neeson in the upcoming neo-noir thriller film, Marlowe.

The film, directed by Neil Jordan and written by William Monahan, is based on the 2014 novel The Black-Eyed Blonde by John Banville (writing under the pen name Benjamin Black). It’s set in 1939 Los Angeles and follows our leading man, Marlowe, as he’s hired to find the ex-lover of a glamorous heiress.

But Marlowe isn’t just your average, run-of-the-mill detective story. The film also stars Diane Kruger, Jessica Lange, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Alan Cumming, Danny Huston, Daniela Melchior, and Colm Meaney. That’s a cast that could rival any all-star baseball team.

Not to mention, Marlowe marks Neeson’s 100th film, so you know it’s got to be good. And with Jordan citing the 1982 film Blade Runner as an influence on the film’s look, you know it’s going to be a visual feast as well.

Marlowe premiered at the 70th San Sebastián International Film Festival on September 24, 2022 and was originally set for a December 2, 2022 release in the United States, but was delayed to February 15, 2023. But hey, good things come to those who wait, right? So mark your calendars, Noir fans, because Marlowe is one film you won’t want to miss.
