Tor.com evolves into Reactor: a new hub for all things genre (magazine news).

In a move that’s stirring up the sci-fi and fantasy realms, Tor Publishing Group has announced a major makeover for their popular online magazine, Tor.com. Come January 23rd, 2024, Tor.com will transform into Reactor, complete with a swanky new website and an expanded scope that promises to cover every nook and cranny of genre fiction.

From Tor.com to Reactor: What’s in a Name?

Since its inception in 2008, Tor.com has been a go-to source for the latest in science fiction and fantasy, amassing over 3 million monthly visits. It’s been the digital home to an impressive array of short fiction that’s snagged numerous Hugo and Nebula Awards. But now, it’s time for a change. The new name, Reactor, is a nod to its independence from Tor Publishing Group, and let’s be honest, it does have a certain zing to it, doesn’t it?

A Pop Culture Powerhouse in the Making?

Under the Reactor banner, the short fiction program will continue to flourish, but that’s not all. The newly branded site is gearing up to be a veritable smorgasbord of pop culture content. Horror, romance, and more will join the party, making Reactor a one-stop destination for genre enthusiasts of every stripe. Think of it as your favorite sci-fi convention, but online and without the long queues for the restroom.

More Than Just a Facelift?

Devi Pillai, the big boss at Tor Publishing Group, is all jazzed up about the transformation. “It’s not just a new name and a pretty face,” she might as well have said. “We’re upping our game to become a pop culture hub, not just for sci-fi and fantasy lovers, but for anyone who gets their kicks from genre fiction.”

Chris Lough, the Director of Tor.com (soon to be Reactor), can barely contain his excitement. “We’ve been dishing out top-notch media criticism, fiction, and art for 15 years, and now our website is getting a glow-up to match the caliber of our content.” In other words, the old Tor.com is getting a snazzy suit and a new pair of shoes.
