The Watched (new M. Night Shyamalan horror film: trailer).

Larks, the woods! Nothing screams “relaxing getaway” quite like a dense, uncharted forest in western Ireland, right? But if you’re thinking of a peaceful retreat, think again. Ishana Night Shyamalan’s The Watched is set to ensure that you’ll never look at a camping trip the same way again, and it’s all laid out for your (dis)pleasure in the illustrious pages of SFcrowsnest.

Now, let’s set the scene: Mina, our protagonist played by the ever-evocative Dakota Fanning, decides that what her life really needs is a bit of rustic charm, some untouched nature – a classic case of be careful what you wish for. Joined by an ensemble cast including Georgina Campbell, Oliver Finnegan, and Olwen Fouere, Mina’s journey quickly turns from serene to sinister. And, of course, they’re not alone.

The film promises to deliver thrills and chills, stalking its audience with “mysterious creatures” that love a good voyeuristic haunt. And who’s behind this eerie concoction? None other than the progeny of twist maestro M. Night Shyamalan, ensuring that expectations are as twisted as the plot might turn out to be.

As for the technical wizardry behind the scares, The Watched boasts a crew that could probably turn a tea party into a tense affair. With Eli Arenson peering through the camera lens, perhaps we’ll find ourselves checking over our shoulders next time we’re out for a stroll. Ferdia Murphy’s production design promises to turn the idyllic into the eerie, ensuring that not even the scenery can be trusted.

And let’s not forget the music by Abel Korzeniowski, which I’m guessing will ensure that even a gentle breeze through the leaves will have you jumping out of your skin. After all, what’s a horror film without a soundtrack that plays your nerves like a violin?

Produced by the man who’s made a career out of the unexpected, M. Night Shyamalan, and released by New Line Cinema, The Watched aims to be the kind of film that lingers, like that twig snap you hear just a little too close for comfort when you’re alone in the dark.

So, mark your calendars for 7th June 2024, dear readers of SFcrowsnest. Whether The Watched turns out to be a groundbreaking horror masterpiece or just another reason to avoid the woods, one thing’s for sure: those mysterious creatures won’t be the only ones watching.
