The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon takes a French leave – Bonjour, Zombies (TV series trailer).

Just when we thought the walkers were done shuffling off this mortal coil, along comes The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon. It’s essentially a prolonged vacation to France for our fan-favorite crossbow-wielding survivalist, Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus), who presumably traded his motorcycle for a beret and baguette. Set to premiere on AMC and AMC+ on September 10, 2023, this spin-off promises to inject an exotic ‘je ne sais quoi’ into the walker-infested world we’ve grown to love (and fear).

In this iteration of the series, Daryl has somehow washed ashore in France – quite the feat for a man who never exhibited seafaring skills before. A master of mysteries, Daryl must piece together how he managed to take a transatlantic voyage in the midst of the apocalypse. Our bet? A less than luxurious cruise liner filled with zombie crew members and passengers who forgot to apply their sea sickness patches.

The series will track Daryl’s journey across France, a country known for its resilience, romance, and now, apparently, ravenous undead. As he attempts to find a way back home, the intriguing characters he meets along the way promise to add a twist to his plan. I can already hear the strains of Edith Piaf’s ‘Non, je ne regrette rien’ as Daryl battles his way through the cobbled streets of Paris, nailing the undead with perfect headshots while practicing his French conjugations.

Among these colorful characters, we have Clémence Poésy’s Isabelle, a woman with a dark past and a seemingly unbreakable faith. Adam Nagaitis plays Quinn, the proud owner of an underground nightclub aptly named the Demimonde – ‘half-world’, a fitting metaphor for the post-apocalyptic hellscape. And let’s not forget the surprise return of Melissa McBride as Carol Peletier, the woman who can make a casserole and dispatch walkers with equal aplomb. Her involvement in the series promises to add an extra ‘je ne sais quoi’ to the proceedings.

While this fresh spin-off is still knee-deep in production, it already has a green light for a second season. If Daryl’s adventures in the French countryside prove as captivating as his previous exploits, this may very well be the start of ‘The Walking Dead: World Tour’. So strap on your crossbow, pack your finest beret, and prepare for a French lesson like no other.

Mark your calendars for September 10th, 2023, when ‘The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon’ invites us to say “bonjour” to a strange new world. Until then, let’s just hope Daryl’s French is as good as his aim.
