Suicide Squad (The New 52) Volume 3: Death Is For Suckers by Adam Glass, Henrik Jonsson and Sandu Florea (graphic novel review).
How much to say about ‘Suicide Squad (The New 52) Volume 3: Death Is For Suckers’ without going spoiler? It reprints Suicide Squad #14-19, and the Joker isn’t very happy with Harley Quinn, with the opening issues being mostly a fight to the death between them. When you consider the Joker had his face ripped off earlier, noted but not seen, a couple issues ago, that has to hurt.
One thing that is problematic throughout is that Amanda Waller has now got a physician that literally repairs anyone, bringing back some who really should be dead. I know that in comic book realities, no one dies forever, but equally, no writer is leaving a low-odds escape. It does tend to present the wrong thing to younger minds: that death is beatable when, in reality, we know it’s not. It does make comic book writers careless in their plotting. There’s been criticism in the past that comic book violence hardens youngsters to it, but really showing the consequences is just as important. It does make the title ‘Suicide Squad’ a misnomer.
This also makes it difficult to synopsis here without going into spoilers. You do have to wonder what Waller is made of, considering she also goes into the field this time and survives. There is very little downtime for any of the squad in all of this, other than being locked up in their cells. Mind you, a little peace and quiet must be good. Oh, and did I mention Waller turned off their micro-bombs for a while?
