Apex Books sows the seeds of speculative Fiction with Chlorophilia (book news).

Apex Book Company recently acquired the first North American English rights to the novella Chlorophilia by Cristina Jurado. The agreement was facilitated by Hannah Bowman of Liza Dawson Associates.

The novella tells the story of Kirmen, a unique individual in the Cloister who is undergoing continuous physical transformations due to a series of experiments. As his body changes, Kirmen questions his place among the other inhabitants of the dome, a structure that shelters the last remnants of humanity from a perpetual storm. The narrative explores Kirmen’s struggle with acceptance and identity as he endures each treatment, leaving readers to ponder what Kirmen will become once the transformations are complete.

Cristina Jurado, the author of “Chlorophilia“, is a bilingual writer, editor, and translator in the field of speculative fiction. In 2019, she became the first female writer to win the Best Novel Ignotus Award (Spain’s Hugo Award) for her work “Bionautas“. Her recent works include the novella “CloroFilia” and a collection of stories, “Alphaland“. Since 2015, she has been managing the Spanish multi-award-winning magazine SuperSonic. In 2020, she received the Europe’s Best SF Promoter Award and began contributing to the bilingual quarterly Constelación magazine.

Apex Book Company, a small press owned by Jason Sizemore, publishes works of science fiction, fantasy, and horror. The company publishes the Hugo Award-nominated Apex Magazine and has a catalog that includes works by authors such as Maurice Broaddus, Lavie Tidhar, and E. Catherine Tobler.
