Webcam is a poignant short science fiction film set in a dystopian future, directed by Nicolás Delgado de la Cámara. The film stars Drew van Acker as James Mann, a man grappling with isolation and despair in a post-apocalyptic world. He lives in a sealed bunker, his only company being an artificially intelligent camera drone named WebCam, rendered purposeless in a desolate world devoid of human life.

The story, co-written by Nicolás Delgado de la Cámara and Dan Wilson, unfolds in the bleak aftermath of global collapse. James, overwhelmed by loneliness and the futility of his existence, contemplates ending his life. However, in a twist of fate, WebCam picks up a signal for an incoming transmission, igniting a glimmer of hope. This critical moment raises the question: is James truly alone, or is there another survivor out there?

The film’s production is marked by the creative talents of a skilled team. Alvaro Martín Blanco serves as the Director of Photography, capturing the desolation and intensity of James’s world. The editing by Mark Apicella seamlessly weaves the story’s elements, while Ramiro Cazaux’s production design and Lora Pederson’s costume design contribute to the film’s immersive post-apocalyptic atmosphere. Makeup artists Valerie Ramirez and Lora Pederson, along with concept artist Diego Velasquez, bring visual depth to the characters and setting. The haunting score by Andreas Widegren underscores the film’s emotional tone.

The SFX puppeteering of the WebCam character, crafted by Nacho Díaz, adds a unique element to the film, bridging the gap between technology and humanity. Produced by Begoña Castillo, David Server, and Nicolás Delgado de la Cámara, Webcam is a thought-provoking exploration of solitude, hope, and the enduring question of human existence in the face of despair. Available for free viewing on YouTube, Webcam invites audiences to experience a compelling narrative that resonates with the complexities of survival and the human spirit in an imagined future world.
