Gal Gadot to play Mara Jade in The Mandalorian? (Star Wars).

Rumours are swirling around that actress Gal Gadot is to join the Star Wars universe, playing a Sith princess in an as-yet-untitled standalone Disney+ streaming-only movie set in the Old Republic era.

Interestingly, when we reached out to our only source in the old Lucasfilm machine, ‘Deep Bossk’, D.B. seemed to think that Gal is indeed being courted to join the Mouse Machine – they say she’s not terribly impressed by the relative underperformance of DC versus Marvel when it comes to box-office wonga and film success.

But, instead, Gal will play a Sith character called Mara Jade – who’ll appear in the various Disney+ TV series set in the post-Empire period of the Mandalorian, such as the upcoming Knights of the New RepublicMandalorian series II, etc.

D.B. is of the opinion that the Old Republic rumour is a cover story for actually joining the Mando, because, for some reason to do with internal politics and faction-fighting (yawn), having Gal join an Old Republic era series would be ‘good’, whereas having her join the current batch of more recent-set New Republic series would somehow be ‘bad’.

To mangle Laurence J. Peter’s famous quote, perhaps “Competition in Disney is so vicious because the stakes are so small?”

Wherever Gal ends up, I’m sure she’ll be a wonder.
