Eisner Hall of Fame 2024: a salute to Comic Book Royalty? (news)

Comic-Con International has just rolled out the red carpet for its latest cohort, elevating 19 figures into the hallowed halls of the 2024 Will Eisner Comic Awards Hall of Fame. This year’s roster is a vibrant tapestry blending the legacies of 12 past maestros with the dynamism of 7 contemporary virtuosos. Among the departed, luminaries like Creig Flessel and A. B. Frost rub shoulders with Billy Graham and Albert Kanter, each having left an indelible mark on the fabric of comic artistry. They’re joined by icons like Warren Kremer and George Tuska, whose pencils sketched the dreams of countless readers.

Sharing the same space, living legends such as Kim Deitch and Gary Groth stand tall. Deitch, known for his underground marvels and the enigmatic Waldo the Cat, shares this honor with Groth, the critical voice and publisher who reshaped how we think about comics. Add to this mix the imaginative might of creators like Don McGregor and Bryan Talbot, and you’ve got a lineup that reads like a who’s who of comic book royalty.

Not to be overshadowed, the contributions of Ron Turner, Lynn Varley, and James Warren are also spotlighted, each bringing a unique hue to the comic book spectrum. From Turner’s countercultural crusades to Varley’s colorist wizardry and Warren’s publishing prowess, their legacies are as vibrant as the panels they’ve influenced.

This gathering will be officially enshrined at Comic-Con on July 26th 2024, with a special morning ceremony setting the stage for an evening where the Eisner Awards will celebrate the industry’s finest across more than 30 categories. The selection panel, comprising Dr. William Foster, Michael T. Gilbert, Karen Green, Alonso Nuñez, Jim Thompson, and Maggie Thompson, sifted through the annals of comic history to highlight these 19 figures for their contributions.
