Here’s a timely new near-future science fiction film/thriller called Dark Web: Cicada 3301. Ignore the rather strange title, this one actually looks like some action-oriented light-hearted fun that taps into the current zeitgeist of paranoia and politics.
In the flick, a disillusioned hacker called Connor – working in a bar – discovers the existence of something known as Cicada 3301, an online treasure hunt that is a recruiting tool for a secret society that aims to conquer the planet.
Connor, art-expert friend Avi (the comic relief?), and secretive lovely librarian Gwen (or is she?) are dashing from graffiti sites to ancient libraries to uncover real-world clues.
But they must also outrun aggressive NSA agents, hot on the trail of Cicada, who have their own shocking agenda.
