Beacon 23: Lena Headey and Stephan James navigating the space and suspicion (scifi TV series: trailer).

The vastness of space has often served as an alluring backdrop for many a tale, and Beacon 23 is no exception. This new sci-fi psychological thriller, rooted in Zak Penn’s creativity and inspired by Hugh Howey’s short story series, sets its narrative in the 23rd century, specifically in a remote “lighthouse” in space.

At its core, “Beacon 23” brings together two characters, Aster and Halan, whose stories intertwine in mysterious and potentially treacherous ways. Lena Headey plays Aster, who mysteriously finds herself at this beacon where Stephan James’ Halan is the keeper. As the two interact, Aster’s intentions remain ambiguous, leaving Halan (and likely viewers) pondering her true motives.

While Headey and James are at the center of the narrative, the supporting cast promises a richness to the unfolding drama. Marnie McPhail, Daniel Malik, and Cyrus Faird, among others, play pivotal roles, and characters like a young Aster and Tara Rosling’s Randall suggest the possibility of intriguing backstories.

The series’ journey from conception to screen has been marked with anticipation since its announcement in 2018. With Headey and James joining the cast in 2021, and despite initial delays, the production persevered. The commitment is evident with the filming of two seasons back-to-back. Author Hugh Howey has confirmed the completion of these seasons, which are now in post-production.

As Beacon 23 gets set for its premiere on MGM+ on November 12th, 2023, it promises an exploration of human interaction and psychology set against the vast backdrop of space. Whether it rises to meet viewer expectations remains to be seen, but its premise and cast suggest potential.
