Torchwood: Among Us part 2 by Ash Darby, Tim Foley and James Goss (CD review).

Propaganda by Ash Darby

Orr (Samantha Béart) really wants to save someone, so when she gets the opportunity to get on a plane with others who are the same, she grabs it. She wants to get to Volosnik because something terrible has happened there. There are a lot of people who want to stop her, and it’s lucky she’s so hard to kill.

At Her Majesty’s Pleasure by Tim Foley

Andy Davidson (Tom Price) has received a warning that Yvonne Hartman (Tracy-Ann Oberman) is going to escape the maximum-security prison she is currently serving her sentence in. The odd thing is that the message is from Yvonne. When Andy gains access to the prisoner, he realises how much he has missed her and their romance. Hang on, what? Yvonne certainly has a way with words, and it looks like no prison is going to be secure enough to hold her.

Cuckoo by Tim Foley

When urban explorers venture into the underside of Cardiff, they expect nothing but to creep each other out. However, in the ruins of Torchwood, something and someone are lurking, and their intentions are not good.

Welcome back to the sinister Bilis Manger (Murray Melvin), who has an agenda that these adventurers are perfect for. Survival is optional.

Pariahs by James Goss

Finally, a reckoning on the corruption and data gathering during the pandemic. With politicians and special advisers at the forefront of hands in the cookie jar, This is Torchwood in its element, and it takes some very special skills to even get the witnesses on the stand.

This set of stories comes to a great finish, leaving plenty of possibilities open for the next. I love how the characters interact so easily with each other, and how all those threads come together. The writers’ cleverness is beautifully interpreted by an equally clever group of actors.

From the dripping sarcasm of Yvonne Hartman to the cheeky charm and dubious accent of Tyler Steele (Jonny Green), this is new Torchwood at its finest. As pointed out in the extras, only Yvonne, Sgt. Andy, and Ianto Jones (Gareth David-Lloyd) came from the original TV series. The new characters have really made Torchwood their own. Orr and Ng (Alexandria Riley), as empaths and shape-changers, have taken on some major tasks in previous audios and continue to do so here. Mr. Colchester (Paul Clayton) is perfection, as always. I love the direction of travel in this and look forward to the next series.
