Renfield: Blood, laughter, and romance in this fanged-ly funny Vampire romp (2nd trailer).

Just when you thought the vampire genre had been sucked dry, Universal Pictures has resurrected the undead with a hilarious twist in their latest film, Renfield. The movie, which is set to premiere at the Overlook Film Festival on March 30th, 2023, promises a fresh take on Bram Stoker’s classic characters from his 1897 novel, Dracula.

Renfield stars Nicholas Hoult as the titular character and Nicolas Cage as his ill-tempered, narcissistic boss, Count Dracula. The film follows Renfield, Dracula’s long-suffering servant, as he finds new purpose in modern-day New Orleans after falling in love with Rebecca Quincy, a feisty traffic cop played by Awkwafina.

Taking inspiration from Taika Waititi’s vampire mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows, director Chris McKay has infused the movie with a potent mix of horror and humor. Audiences can look forward to a fang-tastic combination of supernatural shenanigans, romantic misadventures, and laugh-out-loud moments as Renfield navigates the challenges of being undead in the 21st century.

Nicolas Cage, an enormous fan of Dracula, sought to bring a unique spin to the iconic character by focusing on the movement and finding that perfect balance of comedy and horror. With the likes of Ben Schwartz, Adrian Martinez, and a star-studded supporting cast, “Renfield” is set to be a bloody good time.

The film’s production, which took place in New Orleans, was not without its own dose of real-life drama. On February 8, 2022, over twenty vehicles belonging to the production crew were burglarized, prompting the production company to assure additional security measures. But the show must go on, and Renfield wrapped filming exactly one year before its scheduled release.

With its premise and cast, this bad boy has all the ingredients to become a cult classic for vampire enthusiasts and comedy-lovers alike. Don’t be coffin-ed up at home – mark your calendars for April 14th, 2023, and get ready to sink your teeth into the hilariously horrifying world of Renfield.
