Hayley Atwell, who portrays Peggy Carter, sees no future for her Marvel character in movies (news).

Fans of Peggy Carter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe may be disappointed to hear that Hayley Atwell, the actress who plays the iconic character, does not see a bright future for herself on the big screen. In an interview with Digital Spy, Atwell revealed that she would like Peggy to have more to do in the MCU, but that it ultimately depends on what Marvel and the audiences want.

Atwell also expressed her thoughts on Peggy’s fate in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where the character was brutally killed by Wanda Maximoff. “It was definitely not, you know, the trajectory that I see for Peggy,” Atwell said. “I would definitely like her to have more to do.”

Despite her love for the character, Atwell acknowledged that Peggy is not hers anymore and lives in the hearts of fans. “She is not mine anymore,” Atwell said. “She lives in the world of people that have taken her into their heart. And that’s beautiful. But it’s kind of like: yeah, you can’t control the impact a particular role has on the rest of the world.”

While Peggy may not return to the live-action MCU, Atwell will continue to lend her voice to Captain Carter in every season of the animated show What If…?, so fans can still get their Peggy fix. In the meantime, the next Marvel release to hit theaters is Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which arrives on February 17th, 2023.

Does success come in small bites? We may soon find out!
