Netflix cranks the Gears? Jon Spaihts to pen long-awaited Gears of War scifi movie (news).

Netflix recently made the exciting announcement that the long-awaited Gears of War movie, stuck in production limbo for 15 years, is finally shifting into overdrive. The script will be penned by Academy Award-nominated writer Jon Spaihts, known for his work on films such as Dune 1 and 2, Doctor Strange, and more. With Netflix at the helm, the hype train has officially left the station.

The internet went into a frenzy when the news broke on Netflix’s Twitter account, and fans were eager to discuss their casting choices. The name at the top of everyone’s list? David Bautista, who bears a striking resemblance to Marcus Fenix. Rumor has it that since 2019, Bautista has been practicing his Gears of War battle cries in his sleep, as he has been quite vocal about his desire to play the character.

Bautista’s fondness for Fenix is no secret; he even went as far as to include a skin of the character in Gears 5. Will Netflix allow the man to fulfill his dream? Only time will tell if the planets of Sera align for the former WWE wrestler turned movie star.

Gears of War, a vast and intense media franchise, was developed by The Coalition and Xbox Game Studios under the guidance of Epic Games. Set on the dystopian planet Sera, the series depicts humanity’s struggle for survival amid a protracted conflict, culminating in a brutal war between the Coalition of Ordered Governments (COG) and the Locust Horde.

Jon Spaihts, the man entrusted with creating a live-action adaptation of this epic saga, boasts an impressive résumé. His experience dealing with extraterrestrial creatures and catastrophic events, thanks to his work on Prometheus, The Mummy, and the Alien prequel, will serve him well in this endeavor. Not to mention his brilliance in Dune, which left fans craving more.

As Netflix continues to tease fans with tidbits of information, one thing is clear: the Gears of War movie is no longer a distant dream. Fans should prepare for a thrilling ride through the devastated world of Sera, masterfully brought to life by Jon Spaihts. And as for David Bautista? The battle to play Marcus Fenix has just begun.
