The Zombie Times, August 2012 (zine review).
If you’re a fan of everything to do with zombies, you’ll probably already know about ‘The Zombie Times’. If you don’t, I suggest you head over to Terror4fun’s website right now and subscribe. The newsletter, which is free, comes out every couple of months and includes news about new books, films, games, conventions and anything else to do with zombies.
Although much of the material featured in ‘The Zombie Times’ is UK-based, it does include information about international events, too. In this issue, there’s a very helpful short piece about Zombicon 2012, which will be taking place in downtown Fort Myers in Florida over the weekend of 20-21 October. It will be the fifth year that this American festival and convention has run and it sounds like great fun.
However, if you are based in the UK, there’s some useful advance information about Terror4fun’s Day Of The Undead, a festival of zombie culture coming up in Leicester on 17 November.
‘Resident Evil 6’ is out on 2 October and ‘The Zombie Times’ has advance information about the new storylines, characters and game mechanics. On the other hand, if your preference is for old-style games, then there’s information about three new card and dice games on the market, called ‘Give Me The Brain’, ‘Mmm… Brains’ and ‘Zombie Fluxx’ that you may want to check out.
Finally, if you’re into graphic novels, there’s a full page article about Asylum Press which you’ll want to read. It gives some background information on the publishers and goes on to detail three of their new titles. ‘Warlash’ follows the adventures of an armoured warrior from an apocalyptic future. ‘Eeek!’ is a retro-style anthology of horror tales. Of most immediate relevance to readers of ‘The Zombie Times’, ‘Zombie Terrors’ includes fifteen stories of zombie horrors from a wide range of artists and writers.
Rounded out by the usual collection of reviews of upcoming films, DVDs, books, magazines and events, ‘The Zombie Times’ remains a one-stop shop for anyone who wants to know what’s going on in the world of the lurching undead. When you’re out of ammo and about to be bitten, don’t say I didn’t warn you.
