The rise and fall of Dungeons & Dragons giant, TSR (documentary).
David Barr Kirtley is joined by Ben Riggs to talk about his new book, “Slaying the Dragon: A Secret History of Dungeons & Dragons,” which provides an inside look at the demise of gaming juggernaut TSR.
As the first publisher of Dungeons & Dragons, TSR, Inc. was an American game publishing firm. In order to self-publish D&D, a novel style of RPG game that Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson were creating, Gygax and Don Kaye established Tactical Studies Rules in October 1973. When TSR Hobbies encountered financial difficulties in the spring of 1983, the firm decided to split into four separate companies, with game development and publication continuing under the name TSR, Inc.
Wizards of the Coast bought TSR in 1997 while it was on the verge of bankruptcy.
