The Incal: when European comic-books got good? (video).

It’s time to get into The Incal, the French graphic novel series written by Alejandro Jodorowsky and illustrated by Jean Giraud.

It originally appeared in the Métal Hurlant magazine (Heavy Metal) and introduced Jodorowsky’s ‘Metabarons’ universe.

The tale is set in the city of a backwater world in a human-dominated galactic empire, where the Bergs, aliens who resemble featherless birds, are a rival power bloc. It starts with a down-at-heels PI called Difool who is accused of getting the Light Incal, a crystal that gifts enormous and infinite powers, from a dying Berg.

Difool and the Incal are then chased by various factions from religious fanatics, government agencies, to criminals for possession of the crystal – so, basically Green Lantern crossed with the original Blues Brothers film in space!
