The Expanse series 6 will be the last: cancels before end of the books (TV news).

Bad news – the sci-fi TV series The Expanse will get its 6th season – but this will be the last from Amazon, so – unless they find some way to shoe-horn in loads of books into a single TV series, which would create its own problems – it’ll finish well before the wrap-up of events as featured in the novels of the same name by James S. A. Corey.

As far as the book universe goes, a ninth Expanse novel is planned to complete the main series, as well as one more novella set after the events of the final novel. So [SPOILERS] aside from the authors, none of us yet know how the emerging alien threat versus the evil Martian Empire will work out. [/SPOILERS]

The fifth season will stream on December 16th, 2020 on Amazon Prime Video.

The first three seasons were aired by the Syfy Channel, which predictably canceled the series in May 2018. Oh, SyFy!

Urged on by Jeff Bezos, Amazon Prime Video then picked up the Expanse series for a fourth season, which was released on December 12th, 2019.

Produced by Alcon Television Group, the series was developed by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby who executive produce the series alongside Naren Shankar, Andrew Kosove, Broderick Johnson, Laura Lancaster, Sharon Hall, Sean Daniel, and Jason Brown of Hivemind, Daniel Abraham, Ty Franck, and Dan Nowak. Shankar serves as showrunner for all seasons.
