Johnny Depp ditched from 3rd Fantastic Beasts movie, replaced by Mads Mikkelsen (film news).
Warner tells us that Denmark’s favorite export, Mads Mikkelsen (of Rogue One and Casino Royal fame), has been cast as Dark Wizard Gellert Grindelwald in their 3rd Fantastic Beasts fantasy flick, with Johnny Depp cast into the outer darkness after losing his legal case against Amber Heard (losing a libel case over a 2018 newspaper article which called him a wife-beater).
Johnny Depp has also now been cut out of the next Pirates of the Caribbean film, where a female pirate crew will feature.
The latest installment of Fantastic Beasts, based on JK Rowling’s Harry Potter prequel universe, has a cast including Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Callum Turner, William Nadylam, Poppy Corby-Tuech, Jessica Williams, Victoria Yeates, and Jude Law.
The film reunites director David Yates and producers David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves, Lionel Wigram, and Tim Lewis, who worked on the previous two films in the series Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
The release date for the third Fantastic Beasts installment is July 15th, 2022, and will be distributed by Warner Pictures.
