JK Simmons: Super-santa? (film news)

Hey there, Santa enthusiasts! If you thought Old Saint Nick was just a jolly old man who loves cookies and milk, think again. JK Simmons is set to play the man in red in Dwayne Johnson’s upcoming Amazon Prime Christmas movie, Red One, and let’s just say he’s not exactly your average Santa.

In a series of behind-the-scenes photos shared by Johnson on Twitter, Simmons’ Santa is seen lifting weights with Johnson’s character and flaunting his seriously impressive physique.

“Ladies, gents & children of all ages, the coolest, strongest & kindest Santa Claus ever,” Johnson wrote. “Academy Award winner J.K. Simmons got in incredible shape for our Christmas franchise film.”

Red One, which is set to hit theaters during the 2023 holiday season, also stars Chris Evans in what Variety has described as “a globe-trotting, four-quadrant action-adventure comedy, imagining a whole new universe to explore within the holiday genre.” Johnson also shared a sneak peek of he and Evans filming a scene in a frosty, graveyard-like setting.

We’re not sure what kind of mischief these three will get up to in Red One, but one thing is for certain: don’t mess with Santa. Simmons’ Santa Claus could definitely take you down in an arm wrestling match. Maybe it’s time to start being a little nicer to the man in the red suit.

While Red One could potentially be the start of a new Christmas franchise at Amazon, Johnson’s plans for a Black Adam sequel in the DC universe may be in jeopardy. A recent shake-up at DC Studios has reportedly led to the potential scrapping of the sequel, though James Gunn has said that no decisions have been made yet. We’ll have to wait and see what happens with that one.

In the meantime, get ready for the most ripped Santa Claus you’ve ever seen in Red One. It’s sure to be a wild ride.
