Ladies and gents, mark your calendars for August 11th, 2023. For on this glorious day, your Netflix account will serve as a gateway to an action-packed wonderland. A realm where the line between life, death, and a MacGuffin named “The Heart” is thinner than the plot of a 1980s soap opera. Yes, folks, we’re talking about the much-anticipated spy thriller “Heart of Stone” starring Gal Gadot, Jamie Dornan, and Alia Bhatt.
“Wait,” I hear you cry. “What’s a MacGuffin?” Well, my curious friends, a MacGuffin is a plot device in the form of some goal, desired object, or another motivator that the protagonist and often several other characters pursue. In this case, it’s ominously called “The Heart,” which is probably a misnomer because there’s very little room for feelings in international espionage (unless we’re talking about bullet-to-the-chest type feelings).
This action thriller has been in the works since December 2020 when Gadot first inked her name onto the contract, trading her Wonder Woman lasso for a more secretive and less shiny role. Harper and Netflix hopped aboard a month later, with Harper taking the director’s chair and Netflix shoveling coal into the hype train.
As for the supporting cast, it wasn’t until early 2022 that we got to see who else had won the spy thriller lottery. Jamie Dornan was confirmed to star alongside Gadot. Soon after, Alia Bhatt, Sophie Okonedo, Matthias Schweighöfer, Jing Lusi, and Paul Ready were thrown into the mix, creating a cocktail of talent that’s sure to leave us shaken and stirred.
In terms of production, the film crew embarked on a scenic journey across Italy, London, Reykjavík, and Lisbon between January and July. So, rest assured, your Netflix subscription is basically a budget-friendly Euro trip with some guns and espionage thrown in for good measure.
The plot centers around Rachel Stone, played by Gadot, an international intelligence agent who’s got a heart… or at least, she’s supposed to protect one. In the shadowy world of Charter, a peacekeeping operation, Stone’s mission is to keep “The Heart” from falling into enemy hands. What’s “The Heart”, you ask? Well, we have as much clue as a penguin in a tuxedo at a black-tie event. One thing’s for sure, though: if it’s as important as it sounds, we’re in for one heck of a roller coaster ride!
So, folks, as we edge closer to the film’s release, let’s brace ourselves for a thrilling adventure, full of action, mystery, and Gal Gadot doing what she does best – kicking butt and taking names. Prepare your popcorn, folks; we’re about to see hearts of stone clash in a world where secrets are a currency, and survival is the only game in town.
