The Great Comic Book Recession Panic of 2023? (video)

What do comic book dealers think of the collectible market in 2023, asks Swagglehaus? Are comic books immune to recessions? In this video, they continue their conversation with comic book dealers regarding the state of the industry. This time, it’s from the 2022 Los Angeles Comic-Con. They wanted to know what these experts in comic books felt about the upcoming collecting year of 2023. Are comic books recession-proof if a downturn is on the horizon? Should we purchase? Sell or hold?

Okay, you want to know if we’re all about to go belly-up in a recession and whether or not comic books are the answer to all of life’s problems? Well, let me tell you, it’s not SFcrowsnest’s job to predict the future of the economy or give out investment advice.

But here’s what we can tell you: in times of economic hardship, some people might decide to sell their beloved comic books in order to make a quick buck. Others, however, might see comics as a cheap and stable investment (because, you know, they’re not exactly made of gold).

Now, the value of individual comic books can vary a lot depending on how rare they are, how well-preserved they are, and how important they are to the history of mankind (or something like that). So, if you’re thinking about buying or selling comics, make sure you do your research and consider all the factors (or don’t, if you’re feeling lucky).

And remember, it’s never a good idea to base your investment decisions on the potential end of the world.
