Division 19 (scifi movie: trailer).

Dystopian science fiction thriller Division 19 from Uncork’d Entertainment, starring Mandy’s Linus Roache and Alison Doody (of Indiana Jones and the last Crusade-fame), is hitting to cinemas and digital this April 5th 2019. It’s already won the Critics Award at the Fantasporto Film Festival, and Best Director for Suzie Halewood at the Boston Science Fiction Film Festival, so it’s surely one to watch.

In a gritty cyberpunk near-future, prisons have been turned into Reality TV people-farms where paying subscribers get to vote on what felons eat, watch, wear and who they fight to the death.

Panopticon TV is so commercially successful it is about to be rolled out to a whole new urban sector.

However, when the world’s most downloaded felon escapes, the authorities set a trap to reel him in. The bait is his little brother who has so far managed to avoid detection from the Big Brother-like corporate overlords.

Shades of Rollerball and The Running Man?

Division 19 also stars Jamie Draven (Billy Elliot), Lotte Verbeek (Outlander), Clarke Peters (Jessica Jones), L. Scott Caldwell (Lost) and Will Rothhaar (Grimm), and is written and directed by S.A. Halewood.

The film’s actual tag-line is ‘In the future there’s nowhere left to hide!’ – I think maybe a better one would have read, ‘In the future Big Brother’s not watching you … he’s monetizing you!’
