Disneyland goes Star Wars crazy in 2019 (and Avatar loopy this year)!

Disney Chairman Bob Iger told the Nest that Pandora: The World of Avatar, an expansion for Disney’s Animal Kingdom inspired by science fiction movie Avatar, will be opening May 27th 2017.

Bob also noted the new (as yet untitled) Star Wars-themed lands at Disneyland park and Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be opening in 2019.

Created in collaboration with James Cameron, the new Avatar land will transport guests to the world of Pandora, where they’ll explore an exotic world of floating mountains, bioluminescent plants, and join the over-sized Na’vi alien on two excursions.

The Na’vi River Journey will send guests on a boat ride through a bioluminescent rainforest, culminating with an encounter with a Na’vi Shaman — the figures who have a deep connection to the life force of Pandora – kind of an organic internet-type thang.

The second excursion, Avatar Flight of Passage, will allow guests to fly through the skies over Pandora on the back of a Banshee.

Guests can then dine at the Satu’li Canteen, sup drinks at Pongu Pongu and shop for Na’vi-inspired cultural items and souvenir-style tat at Windtraders, alongside actors dressed up as everyone’s favourite science fictional smurfs.

The new Star Wars-themed lands will be the largest-ever land expansions at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. At each location, guests will be transported to a never-before-seen planet — a remote trading port and one of the last stops before wild space — for all you Star Wars fans looking to feel the Force.
