Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One: nothing says “spy-fy” like Tom Cruise dangling from a helicopter again (new trailer).

Hold on to your hats, folks, because Hollywood’s favorite running man, Tom Cruise, is back in the latest installment of the Mission: Impossible series – “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One“. Yes, that’s right, there’s a “part one” in the title. Because why make one movie when you can make two and double the box office earnings?

This time around, Ethan Hunt and his team are trying to track down a terrifying weapon that threatens humanity. Sounds like a typical Tuesday for this crew, right? Except this time, there’s a dark, mysterious, and powerful nemesis named Gabriel in the mix. Can’t we just once have a villain named Steve or Bill?

Our dear IMF agent is also forced to consider if nothing matters more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most. This point may prove difficult considering Mr. Hunt seems to have a new love interest every sequel. Good luck, Grace, played by Hayley Atwell, who McQuarrie described as a “destructive force of nature”. Atwell, on the other hand, has explained that her character’s loyalties are “somewhat ambiguous”. Is it just me, or do we already sense a sequel?

In a surprise turn of events, Bad Robot Productions is not involved in the making of this film, so the chances of seeing Tom Cruise battling a giant mechanical monster are significantly lower. However, given the title, there’s a good chance we’ll see Ethan Hunt navigating treacherous waters, literal or figurative, probably without a compass, because, why not?

The film is set to release on July 12th, 2023, by Paramount Pictures. So grab your popcorn, folks, because the world’s greatest (and luckiest) spy is about to run, jump, and hang from tall things all over again. And just in case you didn’t have enough of Ethan Hunt’s death-defying antics, the sequel, Dead Reckoning Part Two, is set to be released on June 28th, 2024. Because why watch Tom Cruise risk his life once, when you can watch him do it twice?
