Cri-Fi

Lupin (Netflix cri-fi movie: trailer).

Here is another new cri-fi film from Netflix, Lupin. Those anime and manga fans among you hoping for a rehash of the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Monkey Punch, I’m sorry to disappoint. This bad boy is loosely, and I mean very loosely, based on Arsène Lupin, the gentleman thief and master of disguise created in 1905 by French writer Maurice Leblanc.

This property is much beloved by those of French and Belgian extraction, right up there with Tintin and Asterix, so I suspect there will be a great many purists in continental Europe put out by the Netflix updating of this. But then, they sucked up the Japanese mangling of their precious thief with a golden heart, didn’t they?

However, if the trailer is anything to go by, this flick looks like a damned stylish affair and could be well worth a watch. Something to do on those long winter nights, apart from kill 1930s gangsters in the rather buggy new Paradox computer game, Empire of Sin?
