Lamps that be freaking me out?
Here’s an interesting concept to challenge your perceptions about the blurry line between what’s art and just plain freaky. It’s Al-Hamad Design‘s human lamps. Because, apparently, in the Middle East you’re considered to gain great status by having a humanoid-shaped lamp in your sitting room, and this is a trend that’s been part of their culture for thousands of years. With oil lamps, obviously. They were the cradle of civilization, but they didn’t have electricity that early. Unless you count the Baghdad Battery, which might have been used to power something like this. So perhaps they did.
