It’s about Time (Lord): Bonnie Langford brings the 80s vibe back to Doctor Who (TV news).

Clear out the cobwebs from your leotards, people! The original jazzercising Doctor Who companion, Bonnie Langford, is time-warping back into the TARDIS as her legendary character, Melanie Bush. Fresh off her stint with the Sixth and Seventh Doctors, Melanie is ready to deliver an extra dose of 80s aerobic charm to the Fifteenth Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa.

Langford first charmed Whovians as Mel Bush in 1986, and then teased them with a delightful cameo in Jodie Whittaker’s final episode. Now, she’s back with a full-time return, ready to sprinkle a little leg-warmer magic into the series. Who needs sonic screwdrivers when you’ve got high-kicks and jazz-hands?

Despite her adventures across the galaxy and that memorable encounter with the dreaded “Terror of the Vervoids,” Langford has never been far from the stage, wowing audiences from the West End to Broadway in hit shows like Chicago, 9 to 5, and Cats. However, it’s clear her heart is still spinning around the universe in the Doctor’s iconic blue box.

“To be part of the exceptional cast, crew, and production team led by the force of nature that is Russell T Davies is a career highlight,” Langford gushed, almost spilling her Cyberman-themed thermos. “I’m so privileged and proud to be a member of the Doctor Who family since the classic era, and to be included in the new generation is phenomenal.”

Showrunner Russell T Davies, visibly brimming with excitement, quipped, “Open those TARDIS doors wide, because Bonnie’s back! She’s battling monsters, cliffhangers and possibly even jazzercising her way out of chaos. It’s like a proper 80s reunion, except with more aliens and fewer questionable perms.”

Langford’s return is certainly no fleeting visit as Davies promises Mel Bush will be “right in the thick of the action,” firmly proving that time and space are no match for the power of 80s nostalgia. So, dust off your neon headbands and get ready for a trip back to the future, because Doctor Who is about to get a heavy dose of Bonnie Langford energy!

Doctor Who returns in November 2023 with David Tennant returning for the 60th anniversary special. Grab your carrot juice and prepare for a jazzercise-laden journey through time and space this festive period!
