Stray Bullets is a series of interlinked crime stories about small-time criminals, their victims and the damage that violence does, particularly to children. The stories jump around in time, and the characters recur, building up a portrait of lives destroyed by crime.
Lapham's art is clean and simple, and the stories are shocking, darkly funny and deeply humane. It won two Eisner awards and is one of the great independent comics of the 1990s.
