Silver Surfer
Silver Surfer: Parable, by Stan Lee and Moebius · Marvel (Epic), 1988–1989
Galactus, the devourer of worlds, returns to Earth, having promised never to eat it. He keeps his promise in a crueller way: he lets humanity worship him, and watches what they do to themselves. The Silver Surfer, his former herald, is the only one who can stand against him.
Stan Lee wrote it, and Moebius drew it, and the result is a strange, beautiful parable about faith, freedom and the madness of crowds. It is a perfect short introduction to the Surfer, and one of the few American superhero comics drawn by a European master.
