Lex Luthor has finally managed to kill Superman, by overloading his cells with solar radiation. He has about a year to live, and he spends it doing what Superman does: saving people, performing impossible feats and putting his affairs in order.
Morrison and Quitely strip away decades of continuity and deliver twelve issues of pure, joyful science fiction, with every issue a different kind of story. It is funny, touching and full of ideas, and there is one page in particular that has done more good in the world than most comics ever manage. It is the best introduction to Superman for any reader.
