Astro City is a city of superheroes, but most of its stories are told by the people who live alongside them: a small-time crook who discovers a hero's secret identity, a journalist, a family whose lives are changed by a disaster, and, in the first issue, a Superman-like hero whose only wish is a few minutes to fly for the fun of it.
Busiek's great gift is the self-contained story: every issue works on its own, with no need to know decades of continuity. Brent Anderson's art is grounded and human, and Alex Ross's covers are a treat. It is the perfect superhero comic for readers who do not usually like superhero comics.
