What is Snow Crash about?

Hiro Protagonist — the name is the thesis — delivers pizza for the Mafia in a privatised America of franchise city-states, and moonlights as the greatest swordfighter in the Metaverse, the virtual successor to the internet he helped write. When a drug-cum-virus called Snow Crash starts crashing hackers' minds in both worlds, Hiro and Y.T., a fifteen-year-old skateboard courier of terrifying competence, trace it back through Sumerian myth, neurolinguistics and a raft-borne refugee armada to a media baron with a plan for the firmware of the human brain. Cyberpunk at parody speed that out-imagined the originals; Stephenson's Metaverse named the real one.
