Bill Mantlo bought his son some toys for Christmas, and the result was one of the best space operas of the era. The Micronauts are the rebels of the Microverse, a subatomic universe ruled by the tyrannical Baron Karza, and their war against him spills into our world.
Mantlo took a toy licence and turned it into a genuine epic, with political intrigue, cosmic mysteries and a cast of memorable characters, and Michael Golden's early art is spectacular. Rights issues kept it out of print for decades, which only added to its cult status, until a deal between Marvel and Hasbro brought it back.
