The Star Slammers are a race of mercenaries bred for war and hired out across the galaxy, and they are very good at their jobs. Simonson first developed the idea as an art student, and when he got the chance to publish it, he poured everything he had into it: huge battles, strange alien worlds and some of the best-designed spaceships of the decade.
Simonson is best known for his run on Thor, and his energy, with sound effects that explode across the page, is on full display here. It is military space opera without the grimness of many later efforts, and it is an absolute treat to look at.
