Ursula K. Le Guin gets her own U.S postage stamp (news).

Fantasy and science fiction author Ursula K. Le Guin – best known for her Hainish universe novels and Earthsea fantasy series – is finally getting her own postage stamp in the USA!

The 33rd stamp in the U.S. Postal Service’s ‘Literary Arts’ series features Ursula K. Le Guin, who, they say, “Expanded the scope of literature through novels and short stories that increased critical and popular appreciation of science fiction and fantasy.”

The stamp has a portrait of Le Guin with a background showing a scene from her 1969 novel The Left Hand of Darkness, in which an envoy from Earth named Genly Ai escapes from a prison camp across the frozen ice planet of Gethen with Estraven, a disgraced Gethenian politician. Le Guin won both the Hugo and Nebula awards for the novel, becoming the first woman to do so.

The artist for this stamp was Donato Giancola and the art director was Antonio Alcalá.
