Trek Talking: with Jonathan Frakes (video interview).

Jonathan Frakes of Star Trek fame is Michael Rosenbaum’s special guest this week, and he’s going to take us places no other guest has gone before.

As well as the upcoming season of Picard, he’ll be discussing his three decades of work on the Star Trek franchise and hinting at a surprise reunion. Jonathan discusses his time spent in the role of Riker, his time with Patrick Stewart, and the cast’s reaction to hearing of Wil Wheaton’s circumstances away from the set.

Jonathan Frakes, best known for his portrayal of Commander Riker in the Star Trek franchise, has directed numerous episodes of the series and two feature films, Star Trek: First Contact and Star Trek: Insurrection. He has also made appearances in six Star Trek series and directed episodes in five of them.

Frakes is one of six Trek actors who have lent their voices to the video game Star Trek: Captain’s Chair, and his character is known for his beard, which became a trademark and an internet colloquialism for a once subpar television series achieving a dramatic level of improvement. Riker’s background was explored in several episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and it is revealed that he grew up in Alaska and that his mother died when he was two years old.
