EC's science fiction titles were the best of their decade: sharp, adult short stories with twist endings, drawn by some of the finest artists ever to pick up a brush. Wally Wood's spaceships, all rivets and gleaming control panels, are still the ones many artists see when they close their eyes.

When EC adapted a Ray Bradbury story without asking, Bradbury wrote to point out the oversight and politely request payment. EC paid, and a run of authorised Bradbury adaptations followed. The comics also tackled racism and war head-on, which made them braver than most of the magazines on the shelf beside them.
