The Graveyard Book
Novel by Neil Gaiman · adapted by P. Craig Russell, drawn by various artists · HarperCollins, 2014
When a man called Jack murders his family, a toddler escapes to the local graveyard, where the ghosts take him in, name him Nobody Owens and raise him as one of their own. Bod grows up learning the skills of the dead, but the man Jack has not stopped looking for him.
The novel is a loose, affectionate reworking of Kipling's The Jungle Book, and it won both the Newbery and Carnegie medals. Russell's adaptation gives each chapter to a different artist, including Kevin Nowlan, Jill Thompson and Scott Hampton, which suits a story told as a series of episodes across Bod's childhood.
