Alana and Marko are soldiers from opposite sides of a vast interplanetary war: she has wings, he has horns, and they have just had a baby, which neither side is prepared to allow. So they go on the run, pursued by bounty hunters, a robot prince with a television for a head and a large cat who can tell when you are lying. The baby, Hazel, narrates the story from some point in the future, which is a lovely and sometimes heartbreaking device.
Saga is Romeo and Juliet with a pram, a space opera about parenting, war and the terrible things people do for love. It is funny, filthy, violent and deeply humane, and Staples' art is warm, clean and quite unafraid. It is the defining SF comic of its generation.
